Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The NSW Branch has been off to a busy start this year with two fantastic recent events that were both incredibly well attended. Last month’s first “In Conversation with Camera Technicians” series saw a great session featuring The Art of Focus Pulling and Camera Assisting. A big thanks to all the incredibly talented panelists and to NSW Committee Member and Ist AC, Molly Sutherland for putting the night together and moderating the panel.

The first week of March we also hosted a special Sony Cine Camera Night and welcomed some of the Sony international team from Singapore, Japan and Australia. The Sony Burano & Venice took centre stage along with a great panel sharing footage and experience working with the Sony CineAlta lineup. Again the HQ was full to capacity with plenty of opportunity to get hands on with equipment thanks to Lemac & CR Kennedy who also brought along the new Zeiss Nano Prime Lenses.

Our March Drop In next week on Thursday March 21st @6pm welcomes DOPs Tania Lambert ACS and Kate Cornish who will be talking about their experiences on the Credit Maker Scheme whilst shooting the drama series, Erotic Stories. It enabled Kate to gain her first long-form drama broadcast credit as a DP and this is sure to be another great night.

Amazing to catch up with so many of our incredible ACS Sponsors at the Annual Sponsors Brunch this past week. It's the support of all our sponsors that allows us to host so many great industry events.

One of those events is our prestigious ACS National Awards in Brisbane this year which will be held on Saturday May 4th with satellite events on the days leading up to the big night, so now’s the time to book your tickets.

Thanks to all those who have already taken the time to reply to the rates survey. The survey will be open until the end of the month so I encourage you all to participate as this is an important initiative to make sure the new rate card for the Australian Camera Dept has current and real world rates for publication.

This month also marks the 100th edition of AC Magazine which is a major milestone for the ACS flagship. Thank you to all the contributors, sponsors and advertisers over the years that really have made this a world class publication by cinematographers for cinematographers.

If you have changed address recently please update your address in the ACS membership portal, accessible in the top right corner of the ACS website, and to make sure that you receive this celebratory edition at the end of the month.

All the best,
Carolyn

Tania Lambert ACS and Kate Cornish discuss their ground-breaking collaboration.
Stepping up into TV drama can be a stressful transition. Not only is there more time pressure than in short form, but also the needs of many people in power above you dictate the rules of play.

Learning the balance of how to maintain your vision for a series and execute skillful storytelling whilst dealing with those pressures, is one of the first steps to succeeding in this world.

Join Tania and Kate as they share their respective experiences on shooting the tv drama series, Erotic Stories and gain insights into the ACS/SA Credit Maker Initiative that brought them together on this project allowing Kate to gain her first long-form broadcast drama credit.

Invitation to participate in the
Australian Camera Department Survey for the recommended minimum rate card.

It is time to do an update for the rate card with the aim to include cinematographers. It would be great to get an accurate measure for the current rates in Australia.

It is planned that the ACS will host the rate card in the future on their website as a tool for all technicians and productions to access for reference. All answers are optional and so is anonymity. If you take on more than one role, please feel free to complete the survey more than once for each role you wish to provide feedback for.
