2012 Awards Bookings - Last Chance
Bookings for the 2012 NSW & ACT Annual Awards for Cinematography will close soon. If you haven't yet reserved our seat you'd better hurry as bookings close at midnight on Wednesday 14th November. See the link below to book for what will be a great night.
November Drop In
The November Drop In will feature well known international cinematographer Mathew Allard of Al Jazeera International and from Panasonic Australia, Mathew Alexander. Based in Malaysia, Mathew Allard is the Supervising Cameraman for Al Jazeera a position which sees him constantly travelling. This November though he will be in Australia and luckily for us has agreed to come along to ACS HQ this Thursday where he will give us an insight into his work and style of shooting. Mathew will also have some new gear for us to look at and discuss. He will have: The new Kinefinity Kineraw camera. This is an exciting new 2k Super 35mm 12 bit RAW camera that records in camera to SSD drives. A new 11-16mm PL converted lens from Chinese company G.L Cinemod Optical Service. And also the extraordinary new 50mm 0.95f Leica M mount lens from SLR Magic. Mathew Alexander of Panasonic will bring along two new cameras, the AG-HPX600EN P2HD camcorder, an extremely light weight camera with low power consumption and 10-bit 4:2:2 recording and also the DMC-GH3 which is Panasonic's latest Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera for both photo and video applications. As usual the doors of the HQ (address below) will open at 6pm with proceedings kicking off at around 7pm. See you there.
Funnel Web Spider Dolly
NSW member Rory Anderson has developed a great little dolly which he's named the Funnel Web Spider Dolly. It's sure to be of great interest to many of our members so if you'd like to know more about FWSD then see the links below.
The Astronaut
Congratulations to NSW member Meredith Calthorpe. Her film The Astronaut on which she was cinematographer, writer and producer along with producer Adam Lemmey was selected as a finalist in the DigiSPAA feature film competition run by the Screen Producers Association of Australia. Well done from ACS NSW - if you'd like to see Meredith's work click the link just below.
Phil Balsdon
You will remember an item in Focus last month regarding NSW member Phil Balsdon suffering a stroke. Here's an update on his condition from his partner Alison Ray. "First time in more than a month Phil Balsdon is looking better than he has in a long time. He poked his tongue out at me today - for no reason other than he can - and then cracked a crooked smile. If you haven't been to see Phil and can spare some time during the day, pleased go and visit. He is on ward D5c at Westmead Hospital and visiting hours are 1100-1400 and 1600 to 2000". While Phil isn't out of the woods yet he continues to improve and the ACS wishes he and his family well.
19th WOW Film Festival
WIFT NSW is pleased to announce that the Call for Entries is now open for their very own WORLD OF WOMEN - WOW FILM FESTIVAL for 2013.
