February Drop In

Following the success of our January evening the February Drop In promises not to disappoint.
"In demand" cinematographer Danny Ruhlmann ACS will be there to discuss his work in the area of television commercials, specifically car commercials, here and in the US. He will screen a selection of his work including Hyundai "Falling Water", for which he won a Golden Tripod at last years National Awards .

Danny will also talk about the move from commercials to his first US feature film, "The Raven" with John Cusack playing Edgar Allan Poe and true to previous Drop In form there will be an informal Q&A .

Also, Phil Balsdon who you will read about below is about to take delivery of a brand spanking new EF mount Canon C300 and is very happy to bring it along for a "show & tell". There's been a lot of press about this camera since its announcement in early November and by the 16th Phil will have had a chance to put it through its paces. It'll be interesting to hear his thoughts on his new investment.

It's been really great over the last few months to see many of our newer and often younger members attend these evenings and we would encourage more of you to come along and be involved.

The Drop Ins are very laid back and a great opportunity for us all to mix with and inform or learn from our colleagues.

David Lewis ACS who organizes these Thursday Nights has been doing great work behind the scenes and has arranged this year for more high profile cinematographers to attend the HQ to screen their work and make themselves available for Q&As - details will be appearing in the NSW Focus over the next few months.

Drop In - Feb 16th from 6pm at ACS HQ.

Steadicam Operator's Workshops

Cinematographer and Steadicam Specialist, Phil Balsdon will be conducting Steadicam Workshops during the first half of 2012.

The workshops are conducted over two days using Steadicam Zephyr, Flyer Scout or Pilot versions. All workshops are taught by Phil himself. The workshops groups are small - normally restricted to four students - so every student gets plenty of time flying the rigs and lots of individual instruction.

ACS Archive

Unless you've been to the National HQ recently you may not realize what a great collection of historical equipment and printed material the ACS Archive contains. 35mm and 16mm cameras of various vintages, makes and models. Lenses like the original Cooke Speed Panchros, Kilfits and Angenieux zooms - wonderful stuff.
ACS Archivist, Ted Rayment ACS is always on the lookout for interesting and relevant equipment to add to the collection and was recently offered, by NSW member Alan Samuels, a selection of hard to come by manuals and a set of baby legs. Alan is retired these days, lives at Bowraville in the Nambucca Valley and doesn't get to Sydney too often so if any member finds themselves in the area it would be much appreciated if they were able to call in to Alan's place to collect the material and transport it to the HQ.
