April Drop In 2012 National Awards - A Reminder Sony SRMaster HQ Hosts Cinematography & Lighting Workshop Colour Correction for Cinematographers
Drop In 19th April
Our next Drop In will be on April 19th from 6pm at ACS National HQ Level 2 26 Ridge St North Sydney. Bring a friend or two - you don't need to be an ACS member to "Drop In".
This month cinematographer Steve Williams and producer Martin Walsh will screen "The Battle of Long Tan". In the gathering dusk of 18 August 1966, 108 young, inexperienced Australian and NZ soldiers are separated and surrounded, fighting for their lives, holding off an overwhelming force of 2,500 battle-hardened Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers. And, in the pouring rain, amid the mud and shattered trees of a rubber plantation called Long Tan, with their ammunition running out and another Vietnamese battalion massing for the final assault, the digger's situation seemed hopeless. Long Tan is the true story of ordinary boys who became extraordinary men. Martin and Steve have made a great film about this iconic ANZAC battle so come along, meet them and find out how they went about their task.
Thank you very much to Kathryn Millass and Geoffrey Burton ACS for making the time to come along to our March Drop In. As Cinematographer and Producer they gave us an insight to their working relationship during the making of "Careless Love", a feature film directed by John Duigan. It was a great night and once again was well attended.

Since that time, Sony has worked to gain the industry's broad support for these formats by providing technical specifications and development assistance to content production equipment manufacturers. HQ Hosts Another Weekend Cinematography & Lighting Workshop
The ACS National HQ is being regularly used by Sydney based cinematographer Pieter de Vries ACS as the Sydney venue for his cinematography and lighting workshops and One-on-One training days. Another of the popular weekend workshops is planned for Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th May, and this one will cover more than just the basics of shooting with a video camera. The core of good cinematography is the strength of Pieter's training and participants will learn the knack of telling a compelling story with a video camera by using strong composition, clever use of available light and shooting the perfect mix of shots to create stunning sequences. Pieter says, "the HQ has a cosy ambience that's well suited for learning the craft, however there are plenty of open spaces for participants to move about and try things out. The neighbouring parks and leafy streets-capes are spot-on for exterior practice shoots." Pieter requests that any ACS members who know of someone who may be interested in attending this workshop to get them to contact him on 0418 169 955 or suggest that they visit the training website, link below - there they'll find a full list of topics covered plus a breakdown of each day.
