NSW and ACT Awards Judging

Judging for the NSW and ACT Cinematography Awards took place at ACS National Headquarters on the weekend of 15th & 16th October. Two panels of accredited judges, including Peter Falk ACS from Victoria and John Stokes ACS from Queensland, viewed entries concurrently in both the main room and in the board room. The viewing facilities we have at the HQ are excellent so thank you sponsors Sony, Panasonic and Videocraft for providing your equipment and expertise, the viewing rooms certainly enable our members to show their work to best advantage.

This was the first time entries for the Awards have been judged at the HQ - it was a very successful weekend. Thanks go to all judges and to Marcus Hides, Sidat de Silva, Tom Gleeson, Aleksei Vanamois and David Lewis ACS for collating and organizing entries into the various categories and prepping them for screening and to David Wakeley ACS and Marianne Wakeley who had the very difficult of job keeping on top of the entry fees. Also, thanks to Tony Luu ACS for designing the online entry form and for the FTP upload drop box.

Good luck to all those who entered.

Thursday Night Drop In

Our next Drop In will be on October 20th from 6pm at the ACS National HQ Level 2, 26 Ridge St North Sydney.

Adam Eden of Eden Creative Media will bring along his Red Epic. He will show us various ways to rig the camera and he will discuss possible work flows to enable the delivery of files in RAW and other formats. This will definitely be a hands on demonstration and give us a chance to become familiar with this cutting edge camera.

Also, David Burr ACS will screen some footage and discuss his involvement as cinematographer on the recently released feature film "The Cup".

Awards Entry PayPal Debacle

The NSW/ACT Committees would like to apologize to those members who suffered the frustration and inability to pay via PayPal for their 2011 NSW Award entries. Thank you to the majority who then decided to proceed with a direct EFT payment into our account or paid by cheque.
In good faith, we set up a PayPal account early August with the expectation of streamlining NSW/ACT payments for Award entries.
All worked well until the amount of $1000 had been deposited THEN Paypal, in its wisdom (??) froze our funds and demanded one proof after another that we are not money laundering or terrorists!

To date we are still waiting for our funds to be released, despite assurances by PayPal operatives, that we have provided all documentation required. Once the funds are released, we can reconcile who did pay using PayPal, we will move forward and assure you that this will never happen again…..PayPal is on the self destruct list as far as we are concerned!
