From David Wakeley, Thank You

As some of you may be aware ACS National Secretary and NSW Assistant Secretary, David Wakeley ACS recently needed to undergo surgery. David is now home from hospital and recovering well.

"Thank you to all the members, colleagues, friends & wives who sent messages or called Marianne to check on progress during my hospital stay through most of December, even to the point of our wonderful leader, Ron Johanson, calling Marianne almost daily from Camerimage in Poland.  I can tell you it gave us a great boost & just goes to show how this ACS family of ours continues to grow into the world recognised Society it is. Recovery is progressing very well. Thank you all." David Wakeley

Thursday Night Drop In - January

The first Drop In for the year will be from 6pm Thursday 19th January at ACS HQ.

Thanks to the dedication of David Lewis ACS, and to the many participants involved so far, these evenings continue to be very popular with the membership and hopefully 2012 will see them become even more so.

This month, rather than one or two "attractions" we thought we'd make available an opportunity for any of our members to "show and tell".

As most of you would be aware the evenings are very informal and relaxed so if you have a reel, a short film, some stills, a piece of interesting equipment or software bring it along.

You don't need to have shot the most recent "Ben Hur" - a talk about a simple regional commercial or your experience with one of the multitude of digital cameras now available can be just as interesting to an audience of cinematographers with greatly diversified backgrounds.

If you think you may have something of interest let David Lewis know just so he's up to speed. David Lewis

If none of this appeals then just turn up as normal and enjoy the company of like minded cinematographers and associates for a few hours. We look forward to seeing many of you at the Thursday Drop Ins during the coming year.

Reminder "Thirst" - Complimentary Ticket Offer

A reminder of an item in the last issue of Focus.

To celebrate the opening of the feature film, Thirst at the Chauvel cinema in Sydney in January, ACS NSW members are being offered a chance to win 10 complimentary tickets, an opportunity to meet the filmmakers and enjoy a complimentary drink after selected screenings.

Directed by Robert Carter, Thirst was photographed in outback NSW by multi award winning ACS NSW member Nicola Daley and those of us who have seen this film will agree that the cinematography has been very well executed.

On offer are 2 tickets for each Saturday night screening on the following dates January 14th, 21st, 28th and February 4th and 11th.

Winners will be selected from the best three word description of the trailer.
