A message from the President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the ACS NSW Branch I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Festive Season. It’s been a rollercoaster of a year for our industry and the community as a whole and I do hope everyone will get a chance to stop and enjoy some time with friends and family as well as reflect on the year that was.
I’m very excited to announce the ACS Camera Workforce Census 2021 is about to be launched and whilst you all have a bit of downtime I hope you can add your voice to this important world first piece of research. Ron Johanson OAM ACS will have more to say on this in the coming days so stay tuned…
We have received an overwhelming response to attend our End Of Year Drop In this Thursday Dec 17that the Coal Loader in Waverton kindly sponsored by our friends at ARRI Australia. We decided to have it outside so a few more could attend but we are already at capacity with a waitlist and hoping the weather holds out. If anyone that booked can no longer attend please let us know so we can reallocate your ticket. Apologies in advance if anyone misses out but holding any event this year has been a challenge and we are hoping in 2021 restrictions may ease further.
A huge congratulations to David Lewis ACS and his team for the successful face to face relaunch of our NSW CineKids Programme at the HQ. Last Sunday’s event welcomed an enthusiastic group of participants with a special guest Darwin Schulze a former CineKid and ACS CineKid award winner who presented a short film that he made while the COVID-19 lockdown was in force.

Earlier this month ACS held a meeting of the newly formed Diversity, Inclusion and Reconciliation Committee, open to all ACS members to attend and chaired by Justine Kerrigan. There was some robust discussions and great ideas tabled and I look forward to some of those being rolled out in the new year.
Thanks again to all our valued sponsors for your support this year, I hope 2021 is a busy one for all of us and all our members support those who have supported the ACS.
Thank you to everyone who stepped up this year and helped run an event, committee or a specific ACS project and to all our webinar Drop In guests that were so generous with their knowledge and experiences. This is a voluntary society run on the passion we all have for cinematography and the people that make up our cine family and I encourage members to get involved.
Enjoy the holidays everyone, wishing you all a Happy New Year, let’s hope 2021 is a better one for all.
Stay safe,
All the best,
Carolyn
