March Drop In

Velinda Wardell ACS, Phil Erbacher, Mark Jefferies, Simon Raby NZCS & Brett Smith of ARRI

ACS NSW is pleased to welcome Velinda Wardell ACS, Simon Raby NZCS and photographer Phil Erbacher, recent participants at ARRI's International Lighting Symposium, to share their experiences and discuss recent feature film projects.

It's the third time since 2015 ARRI has invited 70 DoPs and gaffers from 20+ countries to join their sales, marketing and R&D staff in an informal gathering to share experiences, workshop the latest ARRI lighting, cameras and stabilisers and provide opinions on which technology and ideas should guide ARRI's future direction. Many features in Firmware 3.0 and 4.0 of ARRI's SkyPanel resulted directly from the suggestions given at previous symposiums.

Australian and New Zealander attendees have now included DoPs Rodney Charters ASC CSC, Velinda Wardell ACS and Simon Raby NZCS; gaffers Miles Jones, Matt Hoile, Sean O'Neill and Mark 'Barky' Jefferies; and photographer Phil Erbacher.

Also on the night ARRI will demonstrate its latest wireless lens control plus Bebob V-Cine batteries for the ALEXA LF and the ultra-compact VMicro range of Lion batteries. An ALEXA LF and Mini will both be set up with all accessories on-board and a SkyPanel S60-C running the latest Stellar tablet app will light proceedings.

This will be an interesting and informative evening so make a date in your diary for Thursday 21st March, ACS HQ (address below) - as usual doors will open at 6pm with the ARRI presentation commencing at around 6:45pm.

Kino Flo Seminar

Kino Flo Lighting Systems' president and founder, Frieder Hochheim, will present a series of discussions covering the latest advances in LED lighting technology for cinema production, with special focus on advances in gamut control and new camera lookup tables for LEDs.

Directors of photography and students of cinematography, gaffers and production lighting technicians are invited to join with Kino Flo and John Barry/Panavision in Sydney for a series of workshops on LED colorimetry for HD image capture.

"The colour science of LED lighting is to cinematographers what natural pigments were to the old world art masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer", according to Hochheim. "With a new camera Lookup Table feature and advanced gama controls, cinematographers can mix their own LED 'dye, colour and shading' to control the look of the final image."

There will be two presentations held on Wednesday 20th March at The Terrace Function Room, located within the Lane Cove Community Hub on the Lower Ground Floor at 1 Pottery Lane, Lane Cove. The first will be from 1:00pm - 4:00pm followed by the second at 5:00pm.

For further details contact Richard Curtis of John Barry/Panavision, Sydney on 0425 224 901 or RSVP here by March 18th to ensure a spot and please remember to include contact details for yourself and your guests.

Additional Frieder Hockheim, Kino Flo Talk

Frieder Hocheim will also be giving a talk on colour science and the new LED light technology for students at UTS on Tuesday 19th March 1-2pm at the Bonmarche Studio in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. This talk will also be open to the public.
