September Drop In

Kim Batterham ACS

We will have two presentations at the September Drop In. First up,
Kim Batterham ACS and Simeon Bryan from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

From Kim:
"Why come to AFTRS to learn cinematography?
AFTRS has always been a place of excellence when it comes to learning our craft. Bonnie Elliot ACS, Simon Chapman ACS, Denson Baker ACS, Jules O'Loughlin ACS ASC, Ross Giardina ACS, Nicola Daley ACS and James L Brown ACS, just some of our graduates who continue in the tradition of the Shadowcatchers, that is Australian cinematography.

Join Simeon Bryan and myself and we'll take you through the BA, MA and Industry Certificate courses.
Ask your questions and hear a detailed presentation on the current AFTRS offerings for 2019."

Traditionally the geared head has been the choice of most camera operators but in recent years has gone out of favour somewhat except for the operation of remote heads where the electronic version is still very popular.

The second item on our agenda will be a presentation by Angelo Boutsalis of Dragon Image who will demonstrate DJI Master Wheels. Master Wheels is a three axis wireless gimbal controller configured like a traditional geared head which interfaces with the DJI Ronin 2 and Ronin-S gimbals.

Insta 360 Pro 2 : 8K VR camera

Beautifully engineered and with stainless steel handles Master Wheels employs high-precision sensors, advanced control algorithms, and state-of-the-art product design to deliver precise and smooth remote camera movement control. If required moves can be recorded and repeated.
Master Wheels comes complete with a Mitchell base allowing it to be mounted in various familiar situations.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, Angelo will also have on hand the latest Insta 360 Pro 2 : 8K VR camera.

Sounds like it's going to be a great Drop In. Make your way to ACS HQ (address below) on Thursday 20th September.
As usual doors will be open from 6pm with the presentation starting at about 6:45pm.

Judging of Awards entries

Judging of entries in the 2018 NSW/ACT Awards for Cinematography has now been completed and winner's plaques will soon be ordered and engraved.

With just under three hundred entries to be considered, and with the quality of the work improving year after year, judging was an immense task. The Awards committee would like to thank our three judging panels, scrutineers, room supervisors and helpers who took part in the three day judging process. All ACS members, they gave freely of their time and energy to view and to judge the work of their peers.

We regularly hear from judges that being on a panel in the company of fellow cinematographers and viewing the work of others is a great opportunity. Are you Accredited - think about judging next year.

The quality of work to be screened at the Awards on November 3rd will guarantee a great night and one not to be missed, tickets go on sale in October from a date to be advised.
