Message from the President

Greetings colleagues and friends,

I am pleased to advise you that the ACS will be present at the 3rd International Cinematography Summit to be held at the ASC Clubhouse in Los Angeles from Monday, 4th June to 7th June inclusive.

With an anticipated number of delegates from around 40 Societies, it promises to be an incredible event, not only given the expansive agenda, but the opportunity for all delegates to meet in an open, friendly environment to discuss issues that relate to us all.

I will be there along with Andrew Hyde and Roger Lanser ACS, and we will no doubt renew friendships and engage in strong fruitful discussions.

Here is the Agenda as it stands, and I will provide a detailed report once I return home.

AGENDA ~ 3rd International Cinematography Summit

The agenda will cover the most important aspects of cinematography – artistry, technology, business, and collaboration. Throughout the week, we will see presentations on the following topics:

* The Aesthetics of the Large Format - Dunkirk presented by ASC and Academy Award Nominee Hoyte Van Hoytema, ASC, FSF, NSC
* The Cinematography of The Crown: A Conversation with ASC Award Winner Adriano Goldman, ASC, ABC
* Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences - Presented by AMPAS Sci-Tech Council
* The Dolby Cinema Experience - Presented by Dolby
The Post Production on Netflix's Mindhunter – Presented by Netflix & Filmlight at Dolby
* New Trends in Cinema Displays – Presented by Samsung in Collaboration with Curtis Clark, ASC and the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council
* Recent Trends in Large Format Digital Cinema – Presented at Panavision by Dan Sasaki & Michael Cione
* Where Film Meets Digital – Presented by Fotokem
* The Business of Cinematography – A Conversation with Hollywood’s Leading Agents
* Creating and Working in a Safe Production Environment – Presented by Steven Poster, ASC – President, International Cinematographers Guild
* Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion on the Crew – Presented by ASC Vision Committee & Ron Johanson OAM ACS
* IMAGO Presents:
* Paul Rene Roestad, FNF - IMAGO President
* Philippe Ros, AFC – Co-Chair IMAGO Technical Committee
* Elen Lotman, ESC – IMAGO Board Member

* Delegate Presentations:
* Rolf Coulanges, BVK
* Marek Jíha, ACK
* Claire Pijman, NSC
* LukᚠTeren, ASK
* Tony Costa, AIP

Of course prior to the Summit we took up our regular positions at ACS Booth 128A at CINEGEAR @ Paramount Studios, where a dedicated roster of ACS members, including Andy Hyde, Roger Lanser, Ross Berryman, Michelle Pizanis, Rob Draper, Jasmine Lord, Richard Chappelle, Peter Borosh among others were working diligently for the benefit of the Society.

On the Friday evening the ACS held an informal event at a Culver City landmark, Fathers Office which saw a group of ACS members and friends including Dean and Annie Semler, Roger Lanser, David and Leana Knight, Andy Hyde, Peter Levy, Peter Moss, Ross Berryman, Jasmine Lord, Rob Draper, Barry Wilson, David Connell along with Jason Hargreaves, Sue Greenshieds, Martin Cayzer and of course the amazing Michelle Pizanis who has been such a huge help and our IMAGO friends, all get together for a great night of beers n ‘ burgers. There is nothing better than meeting up for a chat and the opportunity to catch up with great friends and colleagues. I’m told a small group were seen leaving at around 1.00am…..go figure!

Until next time
