Running Time: 134 minutes Director, Kenneth Branagh's film version of The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with a translation by Stephen Fry. During World War I, in an unnamed country, a soldier named Tamino is sent by the Queen of the Night to rescue her daughter Pamina from the clutches of the supposedly evil Sarastro. But all is not as it seemsÂ….. Acclaimed cinematographer, Roger Lanser ACS won Australian Cinematographer of the year in 2009 for this truly beautiful and innovative film. There have been many operas that have been recorded on film but few that have been conceived as films. THE MAGIC FLUTE is an entertaining and sometimes spectacular film of Mozart's popular opera by Kenneth Branagh, the actor and director who made his name filming Shakespeare and who has just delivered the blockbuster THOR. He has the inspired help of none other than Stephen Fry, who co-wrote this adaptation and supplied the new English libretto. Set in an imaginative version of World War One style trench warfare, this adaptation never dumbs down the source but entertains with terrific visuals and some great singing by a young, talented and photogenic cast.
