Membership Renewals and Event on Thurs July 28th

Hello Tasmanian ACS Members

You should have recently received a National eNews titled "Membership Renewals Now Due" from our President, Ron Johanson ACS relating to Membership Renewals.

Renewals can be done simply on the ACS website if you wish to use your Credit Card to pay.

Log on with your Username & Password. Please check your details are correct and update them if necessary.On the right side of your page you will see your Membership Type, your Membership Status and a Renew Now blue link if you are unfinancial, which is most likely since we have not invoiced anyone for 2011/2012.

Click on Renew Now and you will be asked to put in your Username & Password again at the top of the page and select your Membership Type, then continue to enter your credit card details if that's how you wish to pay. Print out a receipt for your records.

Alternatively you can pay your renewal by Cheque made out to "Australian Cinematographers Society". Please be sure to include your name with the remittance. The cheque should be mailed to

Upcoming Event Thursday July 28th. Cranes Minicams and Gyros.

The event will be with local ACS members who have interesting bits of gear to show and discuss with us. This includes.

Stephan Petrov and Joe Shemesh with their 8 meter 'Lightning Rod' crane/hot head rigged with Joe's Red Camera. We will be able to see the crane in use and view some of the terrific shots it can achieve. You can check out the crane through the pdf attached to this email.

Andy Wallace will demonstrate some of the interesting minicam rigs he has developed to achieve the amazing shots we see on programs he works on like 'Bondi Rescue' and 'Top Gear Australia'. Andy also has a miniature helicopter to mount Go-Pro or even DSLR cameras.

Doug Thost has developed a gyro stabilising camera-mounting system for a variety of medium weight cameras. The gyro system is portable and able to be used on a variety of moving platforms such as helicopters or vehicles. Doug will bring the gyro rig and show some of the impressive results it has already achieved in Antarctica and locally.

The format for this event will be similar to the Panasonic Event - an informal gathering with pizza and drinks, where we can check out the gear and have a chat. This will be followed by brief presentations/demonstrations from each guest. It will be held in the Conference room at the ABC Broadcast Centre in Hobart. Details are below. Please spread the word around to anybody you think might be interested. Please note - RSVP's are essential for catering purposes -

When - Thursday 28th July (5.30pm till 8.30pm approx)
Where - Broadcast Centre, Hobart (Conference room). Come to the front door and we will show you in, or the rear gate if you need to park.
Cost - Free,including pizza, beer, wine and soft drinks.
