Tim McGahan ACS

QLD President - Tim McGahan ACS

Can you believe its August?

Its getting towards the pointy end of the year for the ACS with the AGM coming up, Accreditation Applications and Screenings and the State Awards.

As you will all be aware the new website is up and running thanks to some very long hours and dedication from the web team. All members should now have received their membership renewal notification which is all handled by you via the web.

As a committee we are continually looking for workshops, screenings and other events relevant to the Queensland membership so if you have any suggestions or requests make sure you get in touch with a committee member and we will do our best to accommodate.

As the AGM approaches I would like to thank the committee for all of their hard work over the last year, it has been a pleasure to serve as State President.

Finally a very special thank you to all of our State sponsors who keep the wheels of the ACS turning.

Brisbane Masterclass

ACS members and Film & Television students majoring in Cinematography are invited to submit applications to attend the 2011 Kodak ACS Cinematography Student Masterclass in Brisbane.

It is to be held at the Metropolitan South TAFE in Mt Gravatt and promises to be an exceptional event with a line up of Australia's most senior and esteemed cinematographers. Priced at only $350, the 3-day event takes place on
Tuesday 27th to Thursday 29th September 2011.

The class is aimed at cinematography students from Australia's leading Film Schools and working camera department members who are looking to make the next step in their career path. Preferences will be given to ACS members and students who demonstrate a passion and solid understanding of the principles and practises of Cinematography. Each applicant will be sent a questionnaire and a photographic exercise to determine their level of understanding. After vetting of the work submitted, an ACS committee will offer only 30 people a place at the Masterclass.

Contact Leigh Christensen on 07 3440 5220 or 0418730432 or email: leigh.christensen@kodak.com to register your interest before Monday 15th August 2011 . You will receive by email, a questionnaire and photographic exercise.

2011 ACS Accreditation Now Open

The ACS is now accepting applications for accreditation. ACS accreditation is considered the highest honour that can be bestowed on an ACS member. Accreditation is granted by the National Executive based on a recommendation of the Accreditation Committee to a member whose overall standard of cinematography is consistently high, or is outstanding in a specialized field. Successful applicants have the right to use the ACS letters after his or her name.

To qualify you must have been a Full Member of the Society for a minimum of three years. So if you think you fit the bill contact your state branch President Tim McGahan ACS or Federal President Ron Johanson ACS for details.
