Message from the President

“Spot the dummy at the Magritte Museum, Brussels" - piccie courtesy of Nigel Walters BSC

Greetings ACS friends and colleagues,

Recent travels to Brussels representing the ACS at Imago, found fellow cinematographer and friend Nigel Walters BSC and I at the Magritte Museum where Nigel took this little happy snap.

Back home on the Western Front I am pleased to announce that the National ACS judging is complete paving the way for the National Awards in Brisbane on the 5th May, 2018 - SAVE THE DAY!

Awards tickets will be available at the end of February with the special Stage and Screen EARLY BIRD BOOKING PRIZE available again this year.

NSW Branch and NZCS member Marc Swadel attended the BSC Expo in London, here's a small glimpse of Marc's report.

Wearing my ACS hat, I joined with Nigel Walters BSC to present Peter Hannan ACS BSC with a Lifetime Member Award on behalf of Ron Johanson and the ACS.
Peter is a legend – an Academy and BAFTA Award winner, Peter started out working on ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ and has shot features such as ‘Withnall and I’, ‘The Meaning of Life’, ‘Insignificance’, and second unit on ‘Sleepy Hollow’, ‘Children of Men’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’.

Peter told some great stories of working with Stanley Kubrick, and how he, and a load of other camera dept. guys were not in the on-screen credits – as they got bumped for ‘more important American exec producer names’ in the final reel.. which apparently was the catalyst for Kubrick to demand 100% control of his future films.

A link to Marc's report is below and well worth the read.

A huge thank you to the judges of the 2018 National ACS awards. Peter James ACS ASC, Warwick Field ACS, Ben Nott ACS, Carolyn Constantine ACS and Rory McGuiness ACS.

Also, thank you Tim Jordin for the long hours in putting the weekend together.
Along with Erika Addis, Julian Panetta, Bryan Meakin and John Stokes ACS - Queensland Branch President.

Full February President's Report also below

Until next time
Ron Johanson OAM ACS
National President
