Dear members, sponsors and friends,
I am delighted to tell you that we have another very special guest joining us at the 53rd National ACS Awards, none other than Mandy Walker AM ACS ASC. We are thrilled that Mandy will be there and look forward to hearing insights into the challenges of making the cinematographic world of ELVIS as well as stories of the recent roller coaster ride through AACTA, BSC, BAFTA, ASC and Oscar nominations and wins.
The last touches are being done on all things National Awards, don’t delay booking your place there now, bookings close 28th April. Seats are limited and bookings are essential at the terrific free satellite events. On Friday night Steve Windon ACS ASC will take us through the making of high stakes thriller The Gray Man, followed by relaxed catch up drinks. And the fascinating insights revealed in Meet the Nominees conversations lead by Kim Batterham ACS on Saturday morning is not to be missed.
I can’t wait to welcome everyone to the ACS night of nights and all the associated events.
Best regards,
Erika Addis
ACS National President

The 53rd annual Australian Cinematographers Society National Awards are coming very soon and will be held in Sydney and the tickets for the events are still available - but only for a little while longer - sales close 28th April!
We can now announce that Mandy Walker AM ACS ASC will be a Special Guest of the evening joining Russel Boyd AO ACS ASC as our Guest of Honour for this year's awards. If you'd like to be a part of a great event amongst fellow Cinematographers, network with others and support those who have made it through to the National Final, they'll be held at the Crystal Ballroom at Luna Park on May 6.

This week is ANZAC Day, in which we remember those in the Australian military who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
At the same time, we also remember those cinematographers, many at work and receiving this newsletter in places like Ukraine, Yemen and Sudan, who bring us the story of conflict.
We also remember that some of our colleagues do not make it back home.
In issue 52 of the Australian Cinematographer magazine, Damien Parer is quoted from the Australian Army journal in 1943:
“Once, to get satisfactory pictures, I spent most of seven days up a tree with my camera.”
“Although I have not seen the pictures I took, I am told that my discomfiture was justified by the result."
Telling words of the struggle and effort of an Australian Cinematography legend whose pictures would help to create the modern-day legend of the Kokoda Track.
In the days of cumbersome equipment, the effort Parer went to will be forever remembered and honoured with the film Kokoda Front Line! receiving Australia's first Academy Award.
