This is a tremendous opportunity to accelerate the development of your project and your career.
The inaugural recipients in 2018 were filmmakers Juliet Darling and Virginia Whitwell who highlight some of the key benefits of attending.
1. What has winning the Lottie Lyell scholarship meant to you both personally and professionally?
Overall it was a career propelling, highly educational experience. I am hugely grateful for the opportunity. It has led to many new business relationships and contacts plus a wealth of intelligence on market and current trends. It’s instilled in me the importance of keeping a current global view on what we’re doing.
2. What is the biggest opportunity have you been presented with that would not have been made possible without the Lottie Lyell scholarship?
Marketing mentoring is invaluable particularly if you have a project that is not a straight forward pitch and you’re a first timer. To go into a market cold without such support or the relevant experience could lead to missed opportunities or less successful first impressions with the international market. Market Trader will broaden your horizons and suggest meetings and collaborations that might otherwise not cross your radar.
3. What was your favourite moment from attending Creative England’s Market Trader intensive feature film development programme at the European Film Market in Berlin?
Really all the lightbulb moments Bea Neumann and Julia Short afforded me to keep me pitching in the most effective way. I would see them most days and they’d always impart a pearl of wisdom that made the next meeting more fruitful and it would spur me on!
4. Entries close in less than 2 weeks, what would you say to those who are unsure about applying to push them over the line?
Go for it - the opportunity of road testing your project within a safe space of the Creative England panels and then the support and mentorship from the core team is gold. Get that script and materials together now!
