NATIONAL E-NEWS - SEPTEMBER 2021
From the President.

Warmest greetings ACS members, colleagues and sponsors,

The 2021 ACS State &Territory Awards for Cinematography season is rapidly approaching, with the Awards presentations dates and locations, obviously subject to COVID RESTRICTIONS but currently as follows:

NSW & ACT     Saturday, 30 October 2021   ONLINE EVENT FROM CARRIAGES
SA & WA          Saturday, 6 November 2021  IN PERSON EVENT @ Royal Adelaide Golf Course
VIC/TAS           Saturday, 13 November 2021  FINAL DECISION OCTOBER 13.
QLD/NT           Saturday, 20 November 2021  @ Brisbane City Hall

As soon as the Awards bookings are open you will be advised. Obviously, it’s difficult to know whether we’ll be able to meet in person for our various Awards presentations but all venues are on standby and ready to go. I think it will ultimately depend on vaccine targets, so jump in and we may just be in a position to share a cold one together.

Accreditation applications for 2021 have now closed and the Assessing panel will be making their decisions online via Silvertrak from Saturday, October 9th. This is an important event and we have 21 applications this year.

No doubt you are all aware of the potential for strike action in the USA industry via IATSE. The ACS supports our colleagues in their fight for better working hours and conditions. We also support the Austrian Association of Cinematographers as they determine if their rights as authors will continue to be recognised by the Austrian Government. Read the Letter from AAC President; Astrid Heubrandtner AAC here.

Until next time
Ron Johanson OAM ACS
National President

POSTCARD FROM JUSTIN HANRAHAN ACS FROM LOS ANGELES
Hi everyone, I’ve just recently finished a new Showreel for the first time in some years and thought it might be a good oportunity to throw it your way and update you on what I've been up to over the past few years. Been a hell of a ride!

I'm still very proud to represent the ACS with my accomplishments here in America in such a short time. From Big Little Lies HBO to landing a major Network tv show which included a total visual change to the look of the show. 2 Seasons of The Rookie and 27 episodes under my belt, only DP for 20 eps. Season 2 The Rookie, 9 day shoot per episode, 61 pages with stunts per episode, locations galour, even during pandemic, as well as 4 huge sound stages at Warner Bros. I'm very proud to say the least, to represent. :-)

Did you see that post...

Filmmaking has changed dramatically over the last 60 years. While smoking a pipe while the camera was rolling may not earn you any accolades from ABC management in 2021 (see the black and white photo from Hong Kong above), one thing that hasn’t changed is the talent and dedication of those behind the camera.
