Message from the President
Greetings members, sponsors and friends,
The 2019 DREW LLEWELYN ACS CAMERIMAGE SCHOLARSHIP IS OPEN Established in 2015 with the support of the Llewelyn family, the Queensland Branch and the National Executive, 'The Drew Llewelyn ACS Camerimage Scholarship', enables one lucky ACS member to attend Camerimage in Poland with an amount of $4000.00 towards flights and accommodation, along with other introductions within the Camerimage festival itself.
The Scholarship will be administered by the National ACS Executive and will be in place for a 5-year period, which commenced in 2015. It will be open to financial Cinematographer & Camera Crew members of the Society and will be decided by a sub committee of peers after submitting a simple application explaining “Why you want to travel to Camerimage and how you see it having long-term benefits for you”.
PAST RECIPIENTS 2015 - Lizz Vernon NSW 2016 - Drew English NSW 2017 – Meg White NSW 2018 – Sissy Reyes NSW 2019 – To be advised

I'm also pleased to advise that this year our ACS Major National sponsor FUJINON FUJIFILM have come on board to support the Drew Llewelyn ACS Scholarship by offering as a special award to the recipient a FUJIFILM X-T3 body with an MKX18-55mm T2.9 lens. A truly fantastic piece of kit that will be of enormous benefit to the winner of the Scholarship. Our sincere thanks to Frank Bite General Manager, Electronic Imaging and Marc van Agten who has been an ACS stalwart for many, many years. Their generosity and continued support of the Society and our members is greatly appreciated.
Furthermore, The JOHN LEAKE OAM ACS EMERGING CINEMATOGRAPHER AWARD IS ALSO OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS. The Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) created the John Leake OAM ACS Emerging Cinematographer Award in 2010 in honour of ACS co- founder and industry icon, John Leake OAM ACS (1927-2009). John began his cinematographic career as a 15-year-old with Movietone News in 1944 before moving on to Supreme Sound Studios. He served as both NSW President and Federal President of the ACS and was the Society’s official Historian until his passing. The Award provides a cash prize of $2,400 to an Emerging cinematographer who is either currently studying cinematography at a tertiary institution, or working in the film industry, and is a current member of the ACS. The prize can be used for any educational, training, or professional work that will further their skills and career.
According to ACS National President Ron Johanson OAM ACS, “This incentive has been a total success, fostering young cinematographers in the pursuit of their career goals”
Dale Alexander Bremner, recipient of the NFSA-ACS John Leake OAM ACS Award in 2013, said: “Receiving this Award has given me authentic confidence, the foundation that drives all aspects of your life. Swimming in this Olympic-sized pool of talented Australian cinematographers, one needs all the drive they can find.”
