CASA is seeking public feedback on new draft rules for commercial or professional drone operations.

The new rules are designed to improve safety and certainty for remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) operations (popularly known as drones).

They aim to:
* Create clear standards for remote pilot training and training organisations
* Create Australia's first official syllabi for RPAS accreditation, in particular the remote pilot licence (RePL)
* Clarify requirements for RPAS operations in controlled and prescribed non-controlled airspace
* Facilitate extended visual line of sight (EVLOS) operations
* Formalise recordkeeping and notification requirements for RPAS operators generally.

The rules are contained in the draft manual of standards (MOS) of Part 101 of Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 (CASR). The MOS helps standardise the professional drones industry by setting specific training and operational requirements. These support the rules already in place under CASR Part 101.
Only a small section of the proposed new rules will directly affect recreational users - clarifying the requirements to operate in controlled and non-controlled airspace. So, for people who fly for fun, all the basic drone rules remain the same.

Check the link below to give your feedback prior to 18 Nov 2018 closing date.

REQUEST to ACS Members from the The IMAGO Technical Committee

Dear Colleagues,

The IMAGO Technical Committee is laying down a great amount of work with the aim to influence camera manufacturers to make the design of menus and cameras to optimally suit cinematographer's daily needs.

Therefore, we launched a Survey earlier this year, asking all IMAGO members to fill out the Survey. 12% have already answered, to whom we are very grateful, but we need answers from a greater number of our members to be able to conclude how our work and collaboration with manufacturers best can proceed. Therefore, we today relaunch the survey, and I hope those of you who have not yet answered will take the time to answer.

By filling out this survey, IMAGO will have a most valuable platform from which we with manufacturers can discuss and find solutions on subjects of importance for us all.

I thank you for your kind help.
Best regards,

Paul René Roestad
President IMAGO

The 2nd IMAGO INTERNATIONAL AWARDS for CINEMATOGRAPHY
Belgrade, Serbia in March 2019.

Each IMAGO member Society is invited to nominate a single entry in the Feature film category and 1 each in Student, TV Drama and Documentaries.

In late October, the call for entries into the the 2nd IMAGO INTERNATIONAL AWARDS for CINEMATOGRAPHY, which will be held in Belgrade, Serbia in March 2019 was announced. Each IMAGO member Society is invited to nominate a single entry in the Feature film category and 1 each in Student, TV Drama and Documentaries. I can confirm that our nominations based on our 2018 National Awards results will be:

STUDENT
Nathaniel Kelly (NT)
~ Curriculum
DOCUMENTARIES
Abraham Joffe ACS (NSW)
~ Tales By Light - Life and Death
TV DRAMA
Geoffrey Hall ACS (SA)
~ Wake In Fright 'Episode 2'
FEATURE FILMS
Simon Duggan ACS (NSW)
~ Hacksaw Ridge

IMAGO President, Paul Rene Roestad FNF added,

For the first time ever, at the 2019 IMAGO Awards, we are now including the Student Film Award category, entries for which can be submitted by a member Society after selection from its country's film schools. We are also introducing the Emerging Young Cinematographer Award and the winner of this exciting new award will be chosen by the Presidents of each Society. IMAGO is very proud to present the 2019 Imago International Awards for Cinematography and we wish all participants the very best of luck.

The addition of the Emerging Young Cinematographer category is of great importance, and I ask each of our Branch Presidents to contact me should they have someone they would like to include to be nominated.
The basic criteria is that the nomination can be made by the society's President. The cinematographer must be no older than 32 years of age at the time of entry and the feature film, documentary or Tv drama must be his/her first one
IMAGO will be in touch with each National/Country President in the coming weeks with more information, and I will keep the Branch Presidents informed.
Enjoy the Awards presentations in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and support our ACS cinematographers at every opportunity.

Congratulations Kirsty Stark

When First Day was successfully commissioned, Kirsty Stark and director Julie Kalceff prioritised authenticity and diversity in the casting.
As well as an ethnically diverse cast, their biggest priority was the lead. Evie McDonald (a transgender girl) - was cast in the lead role.

The short has gone on to win awards all around the world, including at the most prestigious awards for children's television - the Prix Jeunesse - and now at MIPCOM in the Diversify TVAwards.

The ABC have now commissioned a series after the success of the short.
