A Message from the President

Greetings ACS members, friends and colleagues,
State and Territory Awards presentations are almost here, and judging is well under way. I was asked to be part of the SA/WA Judging panel and I have to say the overall standard was fantastic, with a great cross section of entries.
A reminder also that Accreditation submissions close at the end of September, so please if you believe you are eligible contact your Branch President for more information and an Application form. You can find out more details on the link below

ACS Accreditation
This coming Saturday I leave for Bitola in Macedonia to attend the IMAGO Board meeting, the Balkan countries Conference and attend the oldest Festival for Cinematography, the Manaki Brothers Festival, which is an historically significant Festival and affords everyone attending the opportunity to see some wonderful films and mix with the finest cinematographers on the planet. It gives me the chance to discuss many issues and come back and share this knowledge with you.
Manaki Brothers Festival

I have also been invited to attend the ASC 100 year Anniversary at the ASC Clubhouse in Los Angeles which I will be doing straight after attending the Manaki Festival. Obviously I am looking forward very much to the celebration, to seeing our friends from the ASC and other Societies who may be attending and to catching up with our ACS members now living in LA.

ASC 100th

I look forward to letting you all know about the Manaki Festival along with the ASC Anniversary and any outcomes from the IMAGO Board meeting.

Until then
Ron Johanson OAM ACS
National President

ACS SPONSOR BRUNCH hosted by the NSW Branch.

Some years ago, David Wakeley ACS instigated an Annual Brunch for NSW sponsors which has developed into an annual event for both NSW Branch sponsors and our National sponsors.

Held this year on Friday, 23rd August at the Poolside Cafe which is part of the Andrew (Boy) Charlton pool complex overlooking an arm of the harbour, it affords us the opportunity to thank our sponsors in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors and this is a tangible way we can show our appreciation…long may it continue.

POSTCARD FROM TOBY OLIVER ACS

It’s been an epic and amazing shoot across two countries, tropical and mountains to desert... not without challenges but such wonderful fun people.

FUJIFILM launches the FUJINON Premista telephoto zoom series delivering the full benefits of a large format sensor

The Premista 80-250mmT2.9-3.5 is a telephoto zoom lens covering an 80-250mm focal length. Thanks to the adoption of a large-diameter aspherical lens and a new focus/zoom system, the Premista achieves stunning optical quality from the center to the corners, allowing the cinematographer to capture the feeling and texture of the subjects. The lens design contributes to wide dynamic range by suppressing unwanted flare and ghosts thanks to Fujifilm’s original optical calculation software.

The Premista 80-250mm can be combined with the Premista 28-100mm to form a kit that covers the most frequently-used focal length between 28mm and 250mm, accommodating a variety of scene changes.

RED Adds HELIUM and GEMINI Sensor Options to RANGER Camera Line

Designed to meet the needs of high-end productions, the RED RANGER MONSTRO 8K VV has been well received by cinematographers since its launch earlier this year, and remains a rental house-only product.

All three sensor variants of the RED RANGER camera system include the same benefits of the compact, standardized camera body, weighing around 7.5 pounds (depending on battery). The system can also handle heavy-duty power sources to satisfy power-hungry configurations, and boasts a large fan for quiet, more efficient temperature management.
