NATIONAL E-NEWS - JULY 2021
From the President.

Warmest greetings ACS members, colleagues and sponsors,

It is my sad duty, to inform you that National Secretary and ACS stalwart, Ben Allan ACS CSI has decided to step down as our National Secretary; for family and business reasons.

I thank Ben for his commitment to the ACS and to his vision of change for the benefit of all. I am hopeful he will continue his important work with the Constitutional Committee and other committees he plays an active role on.

We are currently in the process of looking for someone to take on the important job of National Secretary, along with an Assistant Treasurer.

The ACS participated in the recent Senate Enquiry Sessions with ACT President; Miguel Gallagher and Accredited member; Michael Fardell ACS playing important roles in the proceedings, which resulted in a positive outcome for the industry. Read the article in Inside Film Here

Here are their observations: INSERT MIGUEL AND MICHAEL HERE

A reminder that State and Territory Awards entries will open on August 1 and by then I am sure we will have a decision if we are proceeding with in-person judging or online via Silvertrak and that will also apply at the appropriate time to the actual Awards presentations, currently on these dates:

SA & WA
41st ACS Awards for Cinematography are on November 6 at the Royal Adelaide Golf Course.

NSW & ACT October 30 (in Sydney location TBC)

VIC & TAS November 13 (in Melbourne location TBC)

QLD & NT November 20 (in Brisbane location TBC)

Awards categories Chair; Warwick Field ACS has prepared the following information at this link, please take a look as it will assist you:

Accreditation assessment will open on September 1 - September 30, so now is the time to start preparing your work for viewing. Don’t leave it until the last minute, start now and talk to your Branch President about the process. When applications open please contact me via email rjohanson@cinematographer.net.au for an Application form.

So please take good care given this bloody Covid has again risen its ugly head, but this time with a vengeance. Please get the vaccine, I have, and I feel a little safer but still wear my mask when out and about. Don’t take a risk, feel crook, get checked, simple as that.

Until next time - TAKE GOOD CARE.

Ron Johanson OAM ACS
National President

NEWS from Matthew Chung

Hey everyone,

Here is a group of Canadian filmmakers who have taken it upon themselves to create a group to create work opportunities, mentorship  and even grants to support BIPOC filmmakers

Sporasco

As you can see they’re using Instagram more as a way of connecting, I assume for more immediacy, consistency and wider reach… easier to contact other members etc

I’m all for creating a similar community where it can feel intimate and more personable… easier to reach out for guidance, advice and hopefully more opportunities for growth

Appreciate you all,

Matt
