Make It Australian Campaign – THE GUILDS
Over the last 5 years or so the Guilds that represent most of the people in the Australian film and entertainment industries have met regularly to discuss matters that directly involve their members.
Ron Johanson OAM ACS our National President has been very active in setting up regular meetings at the ACS National Headquarters to discuss ways of enabling the Guilds to speak with one voice and to forward a collective way of thinking so that the Australian Film and Entertainment Industry can maintain its worldwide and local status.
On Wednesday Oct 18th, a delegation of producers, performers, directors, cinematographers, writers, composers, editors, sound designers and technicians attended Parliament House Canberra to directly lobby politicians to support the Make it Australian campaign.ie Australian content to be maintained, children’s content and hours to be maintained and tax offsets and incentives for foreign producers to be clarified and be consistent to all.
A smaller delegation consisting of Kingston Anderson, Katherine Thomson, Jacqueline Elaine, Matt Deaner, Zoe Angus, Dan Oliver, Gillian Armstrong AM, Bryan Brown, Sigrid Thornton, Zoe Angus, John Seale AM ACS ASC, David White, Bill Russo, Guy Gross and David Lewis ACS was able to participate in a press conference in the Senate courtyard, meet privately with both Government and Opposition ministers for an hour each and then rejoin the main contingent for drinks and a meet and greet with 15 members of parliament for two hours.
Representing the ACS in Canberra were: John Seale AM ACS ASC Roger Lanser ACS and Deb Lanser Rob Shaw-Velzen ACS and Georgina Jenkins Miguel Gallagher Lizz Vernon David Lewis ACS
The whole initiative appears to have been very successful and well worth the effort by every guild to be one united body.
