National eNews and much much more....

Message from the President:

Greetings ACS friends and colleagues,

As you read this I am preparing to fly to Oslo to attend an IMAGO Board meeting and the 2017 Oslo Digital Cinema Conference, which promises to be an outstanding event, taking place from September 8th to 10th,

at the Norwegian Film Institute.
Numerous, well known International technical experts and cinematographers will be holding lectures, showing and demonstrating new equipment and discussing production methods. Many camera and equipment manufacturers will be present discussing their plans for the future. I will make a full report on my return which will be either be in an E news Bulletin or the October edition.

AWARDS JUDGING will begin in September with the NT Branch utilising the SILVERTRAK Media Room to view entries remotely and have the judging panel assess and advise of their decisions. I wish all the entrants across all Branches the very best of luck, and I look forward to seeing the fantastic work of all our ACS members. This method of judging is being used by other Branches as well as IMAGO for their inaugural International Awards for Cinematography, which will see four of our very own entered into three categories:

Backtrack by Stefan Duscio ~ (Best Cinematography Feature Film)
The Daughter by Andrew Commis ACS ~ (Best Cinematography Feature Film)
Wolf Creek by Geoffrey Hall ACS ~ (Best Cinematography TV Drama)
Tales by Light - 'Darren Jew Submerged' by Abraham Joffe ~ (Best Cinematography Documentary Film)

They will compete against 100 other entries across the 3 categories, which makes it a truly International Awards presentation. The Awards will take place in Helsinki, Finland on October 28th.

There is plenty in this edition so enjoy the read….

Until next time
Ron Johanson OAM ACS

The sun shines on Lemac Queensland!

2017 has been an extremely busy year in across all offices, with Lemac Rentals supporting a high volume of productions ranging from commercials, corporates, and documentary through to feature drama and episodic TV. Fresh off the back of a recent renovation, Lemac Queensland in particular has had a full calendar.

It has been fantastic to see the level of production in Queensland continue to grow, and we are very excited to be a part of it. In recent times, we have supported the following Queensland productions; “Hoges” and “The Second” – DP Mark Wareham ACS, “In Like Flynn” – DP Peter Holland ACS, “Occupation” – DP Tony O’Loughlan, “Grace Beside Me” and “The Family Law S1 & S2” – DP Murray Lui, “The Bureau of Magical Things” – DP Andrew Conder SOC ACS, “Harrow” – DP Robert Humphreys ACS.

“Lemac have been around for as long as I’ve been in the business and are an integral part of the Australian film and television industry. The Lemac team is responsive, innovative and adaptable and their experience shows with every kit prep. They’re often the first to have the latest gear, which is crucial now more than ever. In this rapidly changing industry it’s good to have some things you can rely on and I’ve learned that I can rely on Lemac, my first choice in camera rental companies.” - Rory McGuinness ACS

“Lemac QLD provided bespoke camera and lens packages for feature 'The Second'. The prep and support was first class.” – Mark Wareham ACS

“We have been dealing with the Lemac rentals team for years now.  Not only are they at the forefront of obtaining the best gear around, their team is also knowledgeable, friendly and always very helpful.  We look forward to doing business with Lemac well into the future.” – Josh Zaini (Light and Shade Media)

"I love to hire gear from Lemac because I know that I can trust their expertise to help me get the best equipment for the job. The Lemac crew are very knowledgeable, very enthusiastic with their help and their urgency to fix problems should they arise on set. The Equipment they have is always well maintained and is usually the latest equipment available on the market.
Always, great to deal with from Pre to Post!"
– Andrew Conder SOC ACS

“Lemac has been a great supporter of projects I have been lucky enough to shoot… from The Family Law Series 1 and 2 in QLD, to Rosehaven Series 1 shot in Tasmania... Awesome professional service with great people! Tim Jordin at Lemac QLD in particular has been there with great practical advice despite my outrageous requests! We’ve now worked together on a number of shows in last few years and I have always felt fully supported.” – Murray Lui

“I have been using Lemac for many years, with jobs ranging from magazine television through to feature films. It has been the communication and personal attention to service has been the reason I return. I find that creating a strong relationship and developing trust with the camera supplier keeps a show on budget, as approaches are discussed at the quote level and in detail. It’s not just the quality of the gear, but the reliable attention to detail, the continuing service and the support through pre-production and production that is the key to the successful photography of a show. Lemac cover all of these bases.” – Tony O’Loughlan

With over 40 years in the business, and a rental fleet that can take you to 4K and beyond, Lemac is the largest Australian owned rental house in Australia. With offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, Lemac is ready to support you and your team on the next production.
