VALE - Nita Gardiner & Funeral Details

 Nita Cynthia Gardiner (1922 – 2017)

Nita was a true cinema pioneer in the Australian film industry.

A neg matcher at Cinesound Bondi in the late 1930's, Nita met and married Jack Gardiner, cinematographer, director and editor.  Later she worked at the ABC where she met her long-time friend, Aileen. And the for a long time Nita worked at home neg cutting whilst raising the family. A job she loved.

Jack & Nita had 4 children, the eldest John, died in infancy, then there were the 3 of us. The film industry runs deep in the Gardiner clan, cinematographers, editors, directors, and of course those sensible enough to have found careers outside the industry.

Mum was one of 5 children in a close knit & loving family. Brothers, Ron & Darrell & sisters Gwendoline and Joan. She treasured her large & extended family. Family reunions, weddings and trips to Bathurst gave her opportunities to catch up with her loved nieces & nephews. All of whom held very, very special places in her heart.

Many, many wonderful times were spent with her beloved Joan and her husband David Williams.  She dearly loved their children Kim & Candice, I think sometimes as much, if not more, than us. She made lifelong friends in the industry & stayed close with them her whole life. They were a huge part of her life & she treasured their friendships.  Theatre nights, dinners, lunches. Such good friends and such good times.

So many special people in Mum’s life. She touched many hearts & her heart was touched by many.

Nita had a wonderful industry nickname. "Angel puss", bestowed upon her by the great K.G. Hall. Mum always said it was because he couldn't remember her name but we prefer to believe it was because she looked like a little angel.

After she finished work she threw all her passion into various pursuits. Creative writing & decoupage, at which she excelled. To the point that if you stood still for too long you ran the risk of being covered in decorative paper & lacquered to death. A real passion was bridge, she loved it and was extremely good. She would be ecstatic when she & her wonderful bridge partner Dorne "got a mention".

Grandmother to an extended tribe of grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom she was extremely proud and loved very much, as she was much loved by all of them. She was a wonderful grandmother; she truly treasured everyone of them.

She loved attending our frequent family get togethers often hosted by her beloved daughter in law Geri and catching up on all the latest news. The Gardiner family Christmases are legendary.  We've been to Mexico, Italy, Hawaii & to the Caribbean last year for our “Pirate Christmas”.

Music? Of course, very much a Frank Sinatra fan.
Dancing?  She trained as a dancer in her youth and trod the boards for a time. She could put on a fantastic soft shoe shuffle and given the slightest opportunity would, no need to ask twice!!!

The last party she attended was for Jenni’s birthday in April. She stayed out late and had a continuous line of new and old friends wanting to talk to the wonderful little old lady that was our Mum.

In a world where wealth is often a measure of people's worth, love has the most value. Mum loved her kids, her grandkids and great grandkids, their partners, their wives, her family and her friends. They in return loved her to bits which made her one of the wealthiest people in the world.

Go well and thank you for being such a great Mum

The ACS is deeply saddened by the loss of Nita Gardiner, a pioneer in the industry herself, and wife to Jack Gardiner ACS one of our ACS Founding fathers and Federal President.

Nita’s legacy is her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and of course her ACS Accredited son and grandson Calvin and Tony Gardiner.

Rest in Peace Nita, you will not be forgotten.
