Message from the President
Greetings ACS colleagues and friends, Our 2017 National Awards for Cinematography are a little over a month away on Saturday, 6th May. Now is the time to go online and reserve your tickets for what will be a fantastic evening recognising the brilliant work of our ACS members across many genres. Thanks to our hosts this year the NSW Branch, there will be a number of events taking place from Wednesday 3rd May including the following:
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at these and other events, so please come along and celebrate with us all. Once again our friends and colleagues in Queensland have been battered by a cyclone going by the name of Debbie"! On behalf of us all, I pass on our thoughts and very best wishes to all Queenslanders and also those in Northern NSW who also copped it. Speaking of Queensland, Im sorry to inform you of the sudden passing of Queensland cinematographer, Dave Moore who passed away on May 30th at just 58 years of age. Dave was a hard working, creative cinematographer who worked a lot with Queensland Tourism, and was well known for his underwater work and broad vistas of his home state. The Society passes our deepest condolences to his wife Verena, son Todd and daughter Katie along with the extended members of the Moore family. This from Ernie Clark ACS - I'm sorry to be the bearer of some very sad news but our SA Vice President, Mark Evans' beloved wife Christine unexpectedly passed away last Tuesday.
Christine and Mark have been partners in life for a very long time and she will be sorely missed by him, their two sons, their family and their many friends. She was a lovely, vivacious and infectious woman who always seemed to be smiling, having a good time and pleased to support Mark. The funeral will be held on Friday, April 7 @ 12:30 at the Heysen Chapel, Centennial Park Cemetery, 760 Goodwood Rd, Pasadena SA 5042. If you can be there I know Mark and his family would appreciate it and if you know of friends of Mark & Christine outside the ACS please pass on the details. Thanks
Ernie. Other news to note, ACS Victoria welcomes (back) Alan Cole ACS as President of the Victorian Branch. He was elected unanimously at a small gathering of the committee and Victorian members.
Alan is pleased to take on the role until the next AGM in July/August 2107 at which time the entire committee will stand down and a new committee elected. At such time we ask for new nominations for all positions - some members will continue and some will step down. Please consider joining the ACS Committee as it is a very rewarding and privileged position. Former President, Warwick Field ACS will remain on the Victorian committee and also the National Board of the ACS. My thanks to Warwick for his absolute dedication and his tireless work on behalf of the Victorian members and for the pivotal role he played as a contributing member of the National Executive and the active role he will continue to play as a member of the ACS Board. I thank wholeheartedly, past Victorian President and National Vice President, Alan Cole ACS who has agreed to serve again, and I look forward to working closely with Alan, particularly given his experience and his capacity to work as part of a positive, cohesive team" Vice Presidents Mark Morris and Phillip M Cross ACS are available for any urgent correspondence for the next two weeks while Alan is away overseas. Until next time Ron Johanson OAM ACS National President
