Greetings everyone,
Hold the date! And do not miss the fantastic satellite events, including the Friday night screening supported by Panavision of Force of Nature: The Dry 2, including a Q&A with Andrew Commis ACS, and the after-screening party sponsored by Rosco and Leitz. And definitely, book tickets for the Meet the Nominees event sponsored by ARRI on Saturday morning, hosted by Kim Batterham ACS. It is always a rich and fascinating series of conversations. I encourage everyone to attend and enjoy the opportunities to network and learn from your peers and check the booking link now for the full list of all events. I look forward to welcoming you there.
Congratulations to all nominees. Keep your eyes peeled for the great social media posts coming out soon to celebrate all the nominees and the sponsors who support the Society and the awards.
In the latest news about the ACS constitution, the drafting is now completed. Every eligible member has received an invitation to attend the Extraordinary General Meeting on 21st April to cast their vote to adopt the new constitution. The face-to-face EGM will take place in the ACS HQ in North Sydney, and voting members who can’t make it in person are invited to attend by Zoom. Adopting the first completely new constitution in 40 years will be a moment to celebrate in ACS’s proud 66-year history.
Our friends at Screen Well have worked with a Melbourne University team and developed a new survey designed to actively engage participants in considering the amount of alcohol they consume while reporting it for the survey and potentially changing their drinking habits.
Wishing everyone good shooting and catch you at an event soon.
All the best,
Erika Addis
ACS National President

Vale to our recent Cinematography Colleagues

Rob Brown - South Australia
South Australian ACS member and former Branch President Rob Brown passed away at age 61.
The storytelling cinematographer received 2 Gold Tripods and 9 Distinctions in Cinematography through his incredible career.
Australian Cinematographers Society members witnessed Rob Brown win almost seventy SA/WA branch awards across three decades. including Gold Tripods 1992 and 2001. In 2002 Rob also received a Walkley Award.
Colleague and Senior Reporter at the Seven Network Chris Reason remembers Rob as “a giant of his time—a one-man news machine. Name a big story you can remember in the last 30 years, and chances are Rob shot the pictures: Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor, Mandela’s death, the Boxing Day tsunami, Schapelle Corby, and eight Olympic Games."
Our thoughts are with RB’s wife, Vicky, and daughters, Alex and Ellie.

Riki Byrne - Queensland
Riki was a vibrant and deeply loved member of the camera department. A graduate of the University of Southern Queensland and Queensland University of Technology, she devoted close to 30 years to her work in the camera department.
Toby Oliver ACS remembers Riki on set "wonderful to have beside me on set, excellent at her job and so warm and a considerate presence on set."
Her credits include 'True Spirit' and 'The Kettering Incident'.
She loved colour, scarves and sparkles, radiated positive energy and was the solid rock for many DoPs she worked with.

Screenwell studying Alcohol consumption in the screen industry with a new App
|
|
We all know the feeling of clocking off and quenching our thirst with an alcoholic drink. Now, Screenwell wants to understand what that is doing in the Screen Industry. The Mental Health organisation is partnering with the University of Melbourne for the research.
Screenwell founder Ben Steel says the app "has an alcohol reduction intervention in-built, so it’s more than just about capturing data on alcohol use in the screen industry - it’s about seeing if the unique intervention helps reduce consumption, and this distinction really excites us for its potential positive impact.”
Those participating with the program, entirely online and a smartphone app are eligible for a voucher (up to $55) for their efforts.

Australian Camera Department Survey Wants You!
|
|
Help us update the rate card that Australian Cinematographers are being paid at.
Please share your anonymous rates in a survey on how Cinematographers in Australia are being remunerated. The input will assist in providing valuable information for the industry.
A future plan of the ACS is looking at potentially hosting a rate card on the website to assist Cinematographers in billing.
