The ACS is saddened by the loss of former AFTRS student, father, husband, environmentalist, photographer, cinematographer and friend to so many, who was tragically killed recently in Sweden, so far from home. Our thoughts are with his family at this time and to the loves of his life - Juliet, Luca & Isla. A memorial to Tom's life will be held on Sunday June 8, 2014 from 3pm until midnight at: Tamarama Surf Club, 1A Pacific Avenue, Tamarama, NSW, 2026
Postcard from Prague - Mark Bliss
L-R: Willy Kurant AFC/ASC & Mark Bliss |
Last night I bumped into Rolv Haan from the Norwegian Society here in Prague during the Cinematographers Days Rolv said to say 'hi'. We had a really good chat about things concerning our craft in the changing environment. I also had the pleasure of meeting Willy Kurant AFC/ASC who was the guest of honour of the Czech Cinematographers Society. What an absolute gentleman - he shot three films for Orson Welles and so there was lots to talk about. He was presenting two of his films one of which he has not seen in fifty years. Things are busy here in Prague, and I managed to shoot one project recently on film. It was great to hear the camera tick over and hear the film run through. I will be also shooting film for my next project, so hopefully the tide is changing. Hope things are also going well down under. Best regards, Mark
