Biography

Hi, my name is Adam Howden and I'm a Cinematographer. When I was young I loved drawing. When I was a teenager I loved the guitar, as I became and adult I fell in love with filmmaking.

I decided to become a cinematographer in the late 1990's whilst I was studying Photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, RMIT.

I spent the best part of the late 90's and early 2000's working as a 2nd Camera Assistant on features, TV Series and Commercials. At the same time I was shooting and producing music videos, first with friends and then for record companies like Sony, EMI and Universal Music. In 2006 I felt confident enough to start shooting commercials. In 2009 I studied at the Australian Film Television and Radio School completing a Graduate Diploma - Cinematography.

I love collaborating with directors to help them capture honest and engaging performances. I love creating worlds and moods with my lighting and camera work. I pay great attention to lens choice, camera placement and movement to keep the viewer in the world of the story. I love working under pressure and I'm a friendly, open and honest communicator even at the most tense times.

My favorite movie is Into The Wild, directed by Sean Penn. My favorite photographer is… well it's a tie between Bill Henson and Gregory Crewdson. I still really love music and I still really love taking pictures.
