MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Miguel Gallagher

Dear ACT branch members,

I would like to officially welcome you to our first ACT ACS newsletter. The goal our newsletter is to keep our members and sponsors up to date with our association’s news and events, provide a voice for our cinematographers, camera operators and members and inform the wider screen community about the fantastic talent pool we have here in Canberra, both locally and nationally. Of course Canberra is a great location and easy place to promote with such fantastic filming opportunities and conditions.

I would like to personally welcome our new members and I hope to meet you all soon! We are a small but very collegiate membership and it would be great to hear what you would like from your branch. I believe we should all strive for excellence and the only way to do that as a branch is to share our knowledge and help each other out and fostering our creative community.

We welcome feedback on any ideas or improvements and I am looking forward to hearing some great ideas. You can email me at mgallagher@cinematographer.net.au or any of the committee members.

Our first big announcement for the newsletter is the ACS National Awards to be held here in Canberra in 2020. Australia’s best cinematographers will be flying in from all around the country and the world for this event. We have a lot of work to do, to do it justice and show the country why Canberra is the most liveable city in the world.

And the last thing I need to do is thank Josh Mulrine for doing a great job putting the newsletter together and everyone who has contributed.

Miguel Gallagher
ACT ACS Branch President

Blue World Order screens at Dendy on May 3

Dendy Cinemas has signed a deal with local Director, Che Baker to screen Blue World Order (BWO) at Dendy cinema on Thursday May 3.

BWO was filmed with local crew in and around Canberra. Our vice-president, Robb Shaw-Velzen, shot the feature film which lead him to get his ACS letters.

Dendy has said that if this screening of BWO is a success that they will consider showing more independent films. So grab yourself a ticket and come down this Thursday. Grab a wine and stay around for the Q&A after the screening.

BOOK TICKETS HERE: https://www.dendy.com.au/events/blue-world-order

ACT Members are encouraged to go to any DROP-IN's @ the ACS HQ

Drop in's are held at the ACS HQ in North Sydney on the 3rd Thursday of every month....

Killer Instinct BTS

Killer Instinct is being shot just outside Canberra in Bywong.

Several of our local ACS members have been involved in The Film Distillery production.

It's exciting to see more feature films being made in Canberra. Cheers to Rohan and the team for using as much local talent as possible.

YOUR newsletter by Josh Mulrine

I’m really excited to present you with the first ACS ACT newsletter :D

My goal is to get you our newsletter monthly. But, In order to do that I need your help...

The ACS is all about YOU and celebrating YOUR success.

I would love to feature a local member each month so that we can get to know each other better between our annual beers.

I’ll start with sharing this pic myself and Ian Lumsden in Melbourne last week. We weren't filming a feature film but we were in Melbourne, sharing some laughs and having fun doing what we love.

I have compiled a quick questionnaire to fill in. It’s seven short questions and when you send it back I’ll start featuring each of you in the monthly newsletter and on the ACS social.

Whoever sends theirs back first will get featured first. And if you are up to anything fun hit reply and send me some pics so I can share the images with everyone here so we can all celebrate with you.

We are only a small industry so let's stick together.

Let me know what you would like to see in your newsletter. Member features, product reviews, and latest tech, whatever and I'll make it happen.

Look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Cheers

Josh Mulrine
